Our Year 6 class joined with Ashley Hill and Onchan Year 6 classes for and engaging and informative online safety workshop delivered by Childnet, kindly sponsored by Manx Telecom.
The workshop encouraged pupils to think carefully about how they stay safe, happy and responsible when using technology and social media. Through discussions, videos and interactive activities, children explored a range of important online safety topics that are increasingly relevant as they prepare for secondary school.
Pupils learnt about:
- Social media privacy settings and how to control who can see their information online.
- Popular apps and online platforms, considering both their benefits and potential risks.
- Online wellbeing, including how screen time and social media can affect feelings and mental health.
- The importance of making good choices in chat groups and treating others with kindness and respect online.
- How to spot scams and phishing attempts that may try to trick people into sharing personal information.
- Identifying what is AI generated, fake news and misinformation, and checking whether information online is trustworthy before believing or sharing it.

By working together, we can help ensure that our children have the knowledge and confidence to navigate the online world safely and positively.
