As part of their current project, the children have had a taste of life onboard the Titanic. The children all selected a passenger to research and then became them for the day. There was a mixture of First, Second the Third Class passengers. Prior to departure, the children were given their ticket for boarding the 'ship' and came to school dressed for their day onboard. The First Class passengers were allowed to use the classroom doors for the day and given priority boarding status! Throughout the themed day, the passengers have been taking part in a carousel of various activities to experience what it was like on the Titanic including: promenading, diary entry, debating who gets the last seta on the lifeboat, leisure time, boarding pass completion, news reports, letters home and morse code problem solving. One First Class passenger stated that "My favourite part was debating who should get the last seat on the lifeboat."
Snack time provided the three different classes of passengers a taste of the dining differences on board, which lead to a lot of discussion! Third class passengers were a little disappointed with their ham, bread and butter and water compared to First Class's cheese and crackers and fizzy Vimto! One passenger said: "I was so angry about the food because we didn't get the same food as First Class." Meanwhile, a passenger from Second Class exclaimed that: "It was really fun, especially learning about how different the three classes actually were." Overall, the children seem to have had a wonderful experience of Titanic life. They will now need to use their remembering skills in order to write a recount next week!
Thank you to everyone who helped to make this day such a success!
