Year 6 had a special history lesson today, delivered by Mr DeBeer, whose grandson Ryan is in Year 6. They have been learning about World War 2 and Mr DeBeer came into give his own account of being a soldier in a war in Rhodesia in 1978. This allowed the children to broaden their knowledge of warfare with the added expertise of his first hand accounts.
Mr DeBeer's fascinating recount was supported by photographs and parts of his uniform. He very kindly allowed the children to try them on.
They were amazed by some of the experiences he shared - from 4 a.m. 10 km runs everyday to all night bush watch.
Thank you to Mr DeBeer and the rest of Ryan's family for helping to organise this informative session.
